Quote of the day: Look! I have chickens! - CJ (when explaining how to woo potential wives in the GB game Harvest Moon)

I had a super fantastic Sunday where I woke up feeling like the next thing beyond shite and resulted in me spending more time puking in the bathroom than working or basking in the nice day that it was. Yesterday wasn't as great but at least I actually ate something. Well, at least I watched a lot of movies. Doesn't sound like a very good thing, though. Hmmm.

Oh yeah, before I forget to mention, my interest in Gaia is dying. Hoorah. I should've known it would be short-lived. Well, I won't avoid it entirely, I still have the foreign film thread that I heart. Plus, my avatar needs some more gifts! I -never- get any more pink links or floating trunk things! Why?! Woe is me! Woe is me!

Today I learned: Pasta isn't a good thing to eat if you're stomach is still weak from incessant vomiting.

tunes: Tricky - Overcome

Quote of the day: English-motherfucker-can-you-speak-it? Jules (Pulp Fiction)

Soooo, I fell asleep incredibly early (which is 11PM aside from the usual 3AM) and was early to rise (20 minutes earlier than usual... shock!). I take my 5 minute shower in the freezing cold and avoid being ankle deep in blood (phew), made it to work with 3 minutes to spare! (Shock, once again!). I even made a little progress in my assignment that is due on Friday. My pseudocode worked, although there were minor errors, they were fixed rather easily. CJ went to see The Triplets of Belleville which I had already seen on Monday. Yes, I can't believe I saw three movies in the theatres this week. The other two were The Fog of War which I saw on Monday and tonight I had seen Bertolucci's The Dreamers.

The Triplets of Belleville: I -highly- recommend this film! If you have an hour and 30 to spare, then use them wisely by seeing this movie. The music and animation were impressive and enjoyable. Dialogue is barely there, but for a movie like this, it really isn't needed. The actions and music were heavily emphasized and it really didn't take a genius to figure out what was going on. Aside from animation and music, I have to say I did love the way they completely trashed America with the "Statue of Liberty" who was clutching a burger and the numerous obese citizens strolling the streets like lumps of dough. Yes, America has the obesity epidemic. Another favorite scene is the triplets performance in front of the French mob. Possibly THE best scene in the movie.

The Fog of War: A great documentary on Robert S. McNamara. However, DO NOT watch this movie if you've A.) had only 3 hours of sleep and B.) did not have 10 cups of espresso to counter the overwhelming desire to fall into the void of fleeting bliss that is SLEEPING. So after dozing in and out during the first 15 minutes of the movie, I managed to catch some information on McNamara's background (which is HIGHLY impressive and makes me feel so incredibly stupid and insignificant.... which I am, but what the fuck, I don't want to be REMINDED of it!) and of course, the Japanese firebombings. Errol Morris did a great job putting together this doc, with some nice additions to add emphasis to McNamara's comments. McNamara is pretty animated for a man who's...what? 85? Good grief. Hmmm, I also managed to remember a little something about the Vietnam war, but shall I regurgitate it? Of course not! I couldn't remember what happened 5 minutes ago.

The Dreamers: The movie started off not too bad, I enjoy watching other cinephiles, especially those based in France. I also enjoy staring at dreamy French men with gorgeous curly hair and dark features. Michael Pitt (who I mainly remember from the freak-out that was Hedwig and the Angry Inch) was the protagonist of the story. His presence alone should've alerted me to beware of scenes that could cause feelings of that wonderfully sick urge to upchuck. Anyway, beautiful French people? Check. References to classic films? Check. Pleasant artsy music? Check. Significant amount of nudity? Check. Significant amount of male frontal nudity? Check. Significant amount of Michael Pitt's penile exposure? Check. Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating a bit. As a voyeur, this isn't bad compared to actual porn. No. There -were- some parts that I could possibly do without, but I must admit did make the film memorable for me (and gave me lots of reasons to complain). First, the two siblings (Theo and Isabel, I think were their names) have this crazy incestual relationship going on, which I thought was very Angelina Jolie "I'msoinlovewithmybrotherrightnow"-ish. Okay, whatever. They're both good looking, they just couldn't resist. Second, they play this game where they mimic a scene from a classic film and if the person they chose to identify it fails, they must perform an action called by the actor (wow, my vocabulary is TOP NOTCH tonight). One of those scenes involves Pitt's character making love to the female, who we upon penetration discover that she is a virgin. I do -not- consider myself easily squeamish, but if there is something that freaks me out, it's childbirth and this scene that I'm about to mention.

Of course, I could always mention it tomorrow. So the review will have to be completed then.

Let me talk about AFTER the movie. Lucky for me, the library was still open and I was able to return the two videos that I didn't bother to watch. That creepy library guy who always stares at me was there... just sitting and FUCKING WATCHING ME. Dammit, I -hate- being stared at. I picked up The Tin Drum and Delicatessan and hustled out of there. I caught the El at 8th street and got off at City Hall, where I managed to stand unknowingly in a puddle of piss for a few minutes. Blah.

Today I learned: that I stood in a piss puddle for a couple of minutes. I was not happy about that. At all.

Quote of the day: Honesty is the best image. Tom Wilson (Ziggy)

After an hour of Beethoven, I think it's time for some J-rock. Yup. Thanks to a good friend, I found a website that confirms that, yes, there are NO normal people on Gaia. Although the standards for normal have to be adjusted for within the Gaian community. I digress. Okay, the site is project megan and it's the funniest shit I have read in a long time, a lot funnier than the "fag who looks a lot like Britney Spears." Damn, it's already 5:30AM and I'm still up. No wonder I'm so damn ugly, haha. Serves me the fuck right. I learned something today, don't eat cold Chinese food, no matter how hungry you are.

Today I learned: I am a complete idiot. I need work. LOTS.

tunes: Susumu Yokota - Iconic Air

Yesterday was typical work day. Go to work, get pissed at everyone, and sleep in the theaters. I also closed b/c I switched positions with another co-worker. Yay. I stopped by Brent's to check out his new apartment but didn't stay long. It was worth it seeing that cool as shit The Shining/Jack Nicholson/"Heeeeere's Johnny!" decor. Not to mention a CD. I thankfully didn't have to wait long for the bus at 1AM around Fitzwater Street, which isn't too bad, but most certainly not one of the safest place to be. It was damn near deserted anyway. The bus ride reminded me why I hate guys and people in general. Why can't people just leave me alone? I want to wear a shirt that says "Don't Talk To Me, I'm a Mean Lesbian." No matter how much of a lie that is. Especially when it's a black guy, I kinda get paranoid since the black-on-Asian violence has been pretty high lately. In any case, leave me the fuck alone assholes! It's 1AM I want to go home and eat! Damnit. I work today as utility, but (for once) I'm not closing. I work again Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. I'm closing ALL those nights. Argh.

tunes: UNKLE f. Ian Brown - Be There

Why. Why me. That's not even a question. It's a long day and I got home a few minutes so I don't feel like explaining every insignificant detail of today's events. Shall I summarize? Why not. Went to the library to return my overdue videos (that's another five bucks added to my fine) and get more. It's also the same library where the 8 year old girl was raped by a homeless man in the bathroom. There's now a guard there. It's so creepy just thinking about it. At work we screened that new Adam Sandler/Drew Barrymore movie, 50 First Dates. It's a good movie for Valentine's Day. So, I closed blah blah, then I go home. I fall asleep on the bus. I sleep. And sleep. Then finally someone wakes me up and it's the last stop! WHAT THE FUCK?!?! I usually wake up around Tasker Street or somewhere close by that I make my damn stop. I ended up freaking out, disoriented and misplaced, yelling and bitching but in the end..... here I am.

tunes: Mondo Grosso - MG2ss

The brilliance of my situation. Not only do I have to be up by 7:30ish today, but I also have to work at the Ritz tonight AND I'm closing! Is this any different than having a day off? Nah. I'd most likely be working at ImageReady and posting at Gaia. Sad but true. It is and was a good day for music, somewhat. The ooioo (yeah, I'll try pronouncing that one day) album wasn't disappointing, but it also wasn't worth recommending to the crackheads down my block. While the music was reminiscent of Ichi the Killer (for good reason, I believe the music is in the movie, but mine novice ears could be mistaken), it was awfully repetitive. Not necessarily a bad thing, but this chic often favors drum beats here and there in order to maintain some sort of interest. So not until 2 or 3 minutes in the song will you hear something of the like. Due to that sole inclusion, the album was not a complete failure. Phew. Moving on. Bump of Chicken was also superb, I'd file them under the "bands that sound like the pillows so they're damn good" section. Only 3 or so songs I've sampled, but enough for me to pass judgment. Mondo Grosso is on repeat right now and I'm also ripping at a really crappy bitrate, but I have to get them on the pod ASAP! MG4 is brilliant and it's an excellent choice I made. At first, my initial impression was utter sadness that the music made me feel literally poor (as if this music was made for people who could afford to take luxury cruise ship vacations), but now that it's almost 3AM, this is chillout music. Which is obviously my preferred choice of music. Anything to remind me that life is still good is always welcomed. Oh, as an insignificant blurb, I tried watching Versus again. On a whim. Needless to say, my attentions wandered elsewhere and the madness stopped. Heh, I don't want to admit it, but it's quite possible I really AM jaded by Miike. What a wonderfully sick man. Hm.

tunes: Ichi the Killer

I finished my project today, well, I got all the basics down. I'm a little iffy on the validation process and other security features but I'll consider that small potatoes for the time being. Dr. Lamb, to put it nicely, is a steaming pile of horseshit. As CJ would say, "they're actually trying to develop the PLOT!" It's too damn slow for me, a lot of it seemed unnecessary. So we stopped the movie and popped in Ichi the Killer instead, but this time DUBBED. It isn't bad, in my opinion, all the actors seem to have some kind of accent so it doesn't suffer from that horrible American cheesiness. Today was nice, the weather was really beautiful, really enjoyed my little trip to Reading Terminal to go to Tommy Dinic's and get a roast beef sandwich. I know I'm jumping around with today's events, but that's just how I am. I can't write nor tell a story to save my life. Anyway, I actually played a little Diablo today, did a NM Baal run. My zon has 1000-2500 damage but it still took her forever to take down Baal. I know, my characters are LAME.

I really need to see more movies. I mean at the theatres. I didn't have work last night nor do I have work tonight, I should've gone to see Monster and Triplets of Belleville. Ah, well. I'm hungry.

tunes: Jin - Learn Chinese

Yay I changed the layout, I really got sick of the colors and the feel of my other one. Yup. I also turned on IIS now I'm fcuked cuz I don't know how to manage that shit. For an extremely simple layout, took me a long damn time to work on it. Time just flies dammit. Oh yeah, finally listened to Jin today and I have to admit, that chink really has damn good talent. I like his battle raps more than the songs I've heard, but the beat to "Learn Chinese" is from an old Das EFX song I used to love.

Worked a day shift today, was glad to fiinally go home early. I heart it very much. Yesterday pissed me off a great big deal. I don't mind being an usher, but people can really be so fucking annoying. I guess going to movies is an excuse for them to leave their common sense at home. To those who frequent theatres note: if you see a worker still cleaning, then the THEATRE obviously isn't ready for seating. What's the damn rush? So what it's 20 minutes till showtime, the damn theatre can hold 200+ people! Also, if I'm closing and it's past midnight... I want to go home cuz I'm damn tired and I want to sleep. Don't sit in the theatre 10 minutes after the movie and credits ended, making out with your mate or cuddling or discussing the theatre I don't give a fuck you can DO THAT AT HOME don't waste my time we can't shut the lights till you fucking leave! Damn people.

I want to see City of God.

tunes: DJ Shadow - Mongrel.....

Shiznat, I got home and posted on Gaia and played with ImageReady. The whole night. A waste? Nah, I managed to listen to some new music, which is always satisfying. I went to the library during my lunch break and picked up a book by Mo Yan (author of Red Sorghum) and 2 movies (Dr. Lamb and Mahjong Dragon). Tonight I have to work so fux0r it. I also have to work Saturday, swing shift, blah. WTF, oh yeah, I made another gif in ImageReady for my current favorite Tricky song: Black Steel. Very simple and easy. About the layout, it'll obviously have to wait, too damn busy... deadlines coming up!

tunes: Portishead - Biscuit

Inspiration hit me like a Mack truck right now. I'll be working on a new layout when I get home. Honestly, I don't change layouts often enough, just when I get sick of it that it has to go. Since my strong interest in J-rock and J-pop has started to dull out, I'm going to remove the layout. I think I'm mostly just sick of the color XP

tunes: Massive Attack - Mezzanine

Saw Japanese Story today. Ummm....what can I say about this? Well, for one, I really didn't need to see Toni Collette in the nude (dammit, where's my Angelina Jolie picture gallery, I need her now!!!). The music was lovely (and no, it wasn't produced by Yoshiki and there wasn't a hint of jrock... not that I was expecting any, of course). I guess the reasons this movie received so much acclaim from critics was development of the plot (aside from the twist which I'm still puzzled over) in regards to the relationship of the main characters. I felt it was handled well, but nothing that seemed new or out of the ordinary. Aside from the bizarre twist, it was what I expected. Hmph.

BTW, I got threatened that I was going to get kicked out of the house. Sheesh.
